Judgmental vs Rationale Based Decision Making

There are some cynics who confuse judgmental with rationale, so let me explain the difference between these two for them. When a decision is made on the basis of limited information or the information which is literally non-existent that is called judgmental. But if there is substantial amount of evidence and information about a certain issue and decision is made on the basis of those evidence then it is termed as a rationale decision.

As a matter of fact both are important there might be some cases where you have to be judgmental because you can not always analyze the whole information, pros & cons and all the dimensions of the picture so there you have to make good use of your judgmental qualities. Being rationale is always good, but the problem with this option is that it takes too much time but the accuracy of rationale based decisions is far more than being judgmental.

Imperishable part of memory…

Like thousands of people I also daily travel between Charsadda and Peshawar. Most of the People daily travel between these two places for schools, colleges, relatives and jobs. Yesterday I boarded on to a HIACE which is the most common convenience available for most of the commuters traveling between Charsadda and Peshawar. It was 4:30 pm I was moving back to my home in Charsadda after my daily routine.

When the HIACE started going, the conductor asked for the fare. I took out my wallet and was about to take out the fare which is 35 rupees, the wallet slipped off my hand. To my dismay there was a hole in the floor of the HIACE and my wallet went out through that hole. I stopped the HIACE to get my wallet from the road but before I could reach out for the wallet it was too late. The wallet had disappeared in a split of a second.

I was astonished by the sudden disappearance of wallet from the road. I couldn’t believe I have lost it. I asked people nearby the road that have they seen a wallet that just dropped out of the HIACE but all the answers were in negative.

I was extremely sad not because I had lost just a handsome amount of money but I lost my NIC (National ID card), service card, ATM card which wasn’t even activated. When I thought about the hectic job through which I am again going to pass to make these cards again I was literally getting mad.

As far as money is concerned I quickly convinced my self that may be the person who must have found my wallet needed money more than me and that it was my fate. I was cursing my self for not keeping the wallet in a safer place because I was left empty handed. I was praying that may that person return my wallet even if it’s without the money I will still be thankful to him.

May be it was a mistake on my part or may be fate but whatever it was it’s an imperishable part of my memory.

Good Moment for Cricket in Pakistan

After a long time Pakistan has won a series and that too a clean sweep. Not just the series against West indies but the Lahore Badshah won the T20 Championship in the controversial ICL, though Lahore Badshah might not be an official team of PCB but still it was a squad of 15 men with name of Pakistan attached to them. Most of the players in Lahore Badshah have played for Pakistan.

So now Pakistanis can enjoy this short lived cold breeze of cricket. Short in the sense that there is a very less chance we can watch any series being played in Pakistan because of different reason including security concerns. It has been a long time since any match is played in Pakistan. But for now we can enjoy these two wins. This may bring some joy to the fans of cricket in Pakistan.

We will hope that the new administration of PCB is successfull in arranging some cricket events and bringing the foreign cricket teams to Pakistan. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Why Critcise HEC?

Transition of good policies is always imperative for development in a third world country like ours. we always see some good initiatives taken by one GOVT which are reverted by the following one.

One of the good policy of the previous GOVT was its initiative to back-up HEC to start some good projects and spend more money on higher education.

Now what we see is that media is severely criticizing the HEC (Higher education commission of Pakistan). Recently I read a news article carrying Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan’s comments regarding the performance of HEC, he intensely criticized the HEC, which is unjustified.

Let me remind him that HEC is a regulatory body which makes guidelines and plans different projects, makes strategies, creates rules & regulations. He criticized HEC for not building good universities and that he himself built a very good university. I think it will be very iniquitous to expect that HEC will it self supervise different project.

Yes, there is a lot to be done and a lot of things which must have been done. The HEC should be held accountable for it, but then accountability should start from 1947. what i feel is that HEC did some great things in only 5 to 6 years which the UGC (University Grant Commission) couldn’t do in 55 years.

So HEC should be giving its due credit where ever it deserves. It would be unjustified to term there work as a complete a waste.

I know so many people who started coming to back to pakistan becuase of the good policies of HEC. Infact HEC curtailed the phenomenon of “BRAIN DRAIN” up to some level and chaned it into “BRAIN GAIN”. The need of the hour is that we should spend more on our education and stop criticism for the sake of critcism. Instead of looking at the half empty glass  we should appreciate da half filled, learn from our mistakes and appreciate the good work.
